Each week goes faster than the one before.  I meant to update this more often, but I haven’t been getting off the ship at every port because I’m trying to save money.  I know, I don’t have to spend money to get off the ship.  But when I’m out and trying to use the internet at restaurants (or even casinos, like today) I feel guilty sitting without buying something.  Usually I stick with a drink, but then I don’t feel like staying long.

I’ve had breakfast every day (not today, but we had a Bravo drill) and going to the gym five times a week, so I’m going to treat myself to something at the spa in a couple weeks if I keep up the better habits.

Our new band is fitting together very well.  We haven’t had a piano player for almost two weeks, but supposedly one is coming on Friday. Another woman!  That will make three with our trumpet player, Emily.  Apparently this is a strange phenomenon for a cruise ship band.

I have just four more pay days after this evening.  Saying it like that makes my time left feel so short.

New, new…hmm.  I read the Girl w/the Dragon Tattoo series (I understand how you might not like it, Grandma.  I could not stop reading though!), A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson (now I want to hike parts of the Appalachian Trail.  So much to do, I don’t know how to fit everything in), Bossypants by Tina Fey (we had a guest entertainer who didn’t use the orchestra for the full show, so I got a ton of reading time), and I’ve started The Art of Fielding.  Thank goodness for my mom, Uncle Doug, Aunt Steph, and Devin for Amazon.com gift cards!  Before I did ships I didn’t completely support kindles or the idea of electronic books.  I love being able to hold a book and flick through the pages.  I love used books too-it’s fun to think of all the people who have read it before me.  But Oh My Goodness.  The kindle is the best thing for travelers.  I can have any book that I want! One of my friends reads books on his ipad, and there might be a way I can get more (cheaper) books.  Amazon.com gives out a ton of free classics, and I’m excited to start those.

I’m sorry to break this off suddenly, but I’ve got to go to lunch.  Let me know if you have any book recommendations please!

Hey! I actually tried to get David Sedaris for the kindle but I don’t think any of his books are on the site. I found some books about books that he wrote and bought one accidentally, but I want to read one of his books as soon as I can.

  2. Brookie, your choice of books impresses me. Doug uses a Kendle, too. I probably mentioned Julia Child’s My Life in France–very enjoyable unexpectedly. A Walk in the Woods, also, I loved. This age of technology never ceases to amaze me. Love you, Gma
